The apostille process consists of placing an Apostille or annotation on a public document, or an extension thereof, that will certify the authenticity of the signature of the public documents issued in a signatory country of the XII Hague Convention of October 5, 1961, which abolishes the requirement of Legalization of Foreign Public Documents that must take effect in another country signing it.
Thus, documents issued in a country that signed the Agreement that have been certified by an Apostille must be recognized in any other country of the Agreement without the need for any other type of authentication.
Colombia is part of the 111 countries attached to the hague agreement, however there are other countries not registered and that for the purpose of recognition of documents at international level they must legalize said documents.
The legalization consists in certifying the signature of the public official so that the document is valid in another country that is not part of the Apostille Agreement, whose signature must be registered in the database of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
